What Are The Types Of Scarring Acne?
There can be various types of acne scars. You can have acne related scars on your back, on your face or you could have it in the form of pimple scars. These scars can come in various different forms.
- Scars caused by increased tissue formation in the acne region.
- Scars which are result of loss of tissue from the acne region.
- Scars that look like an ice pick has caused it — Scars with steep side.
- Depressed scars with steep sides.
- Superficial scars — They integrate with your normal tissue leaving a gradient look.
- Atrophic scars which are caused by blood vessels showing their violet color on white skin and contrasting with the surrounding tissue.
Is It Possible To Remove These Scars?
Of course, anyone with acne related scar will be looking for methods on how to remove scars. Fortunately, there are lots of related treatments that can be conducted for acne scar repair. Of course, each treatment may work different on people, so only your dermatologist can make the decision on which treatment method to pursue. However, here are some common treatment methods for removing the acne related scars.
- Chemical Peeling: This method is especially useful on scars with steep sides (depressed scars). The surrounding region is chemically peeled in thin layers by using non-allergic chemical materials. This procedure may be needed to be repeated several times; but usually this method gives good results. However, the downside of this treatment method is the fact that it can not be used in scars that are too deep and it certainly can’t be used in scars like ice pick scars.
- Laser Treatment: This is one of the more innovative methods as laser treatment of acne scars can be used to treat even the most complex cases. Unlike chemical peeling, you can go much deeper into the surrounding tissue with laser treatment. Depressed surfaces can be elevated and even ice pick type scars can be just burned away. However, this is usually used only in the most serious cases and it a more expensive method compared to the other alternative treatment techniques.
- Injection of Steroids: This is sometimes used to help with scar improvement. Steroids can cause tissue growth in the region to help normalize the skin. However this method has side effects as it may cause unwanted pimples to form at the same time.
- Surgery: In severe cases, cosmetic surgery may be your only option for acne scar removal. Sometimes surgery can be used with combination of other techniques for complex cases.
